A Life and Learning Community for Afghans
Over 100,000 Afghan refugees have entered the United States since August 2021.
These Afghans come from a wide range of tribal groups and language backgrounds. They are being resettled in communities throughout the country and are faced with a very difficult adjustment and assimilation.
Over 500 Afghans have been placed for resettlement in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The Haven reaches out to this community in Lancaster with the love of Christ and a comprehensive program of educational, emotional, and spiritual resources these families need for successful and fulfilled lives.
The Haven is based in a downtown Lancaster property, sharing space at Bright Side Opportunities Center, and provides services for men, women, and children in partnership with local churches and non-profit immigrant organizations.
Our focus is providing a safe space for Afghans to build a community here in the US where they can receive healing and develop the tools they need for cultural adaptation. We provide easily accessible programs, i.e., evening classes for men who work during the day and providing childcare so that women are free to study.
